Stay Safe: How to Spot and Avoid Recharge & Bill Payment Scams

TRETTON EPICE Team · 25 Sep 2026 · 1 min read

Fraudsters increasingly target people paying utility bills and recharges. Knowing the common tricks is the best defence.

Common scams

  • "Your electricity will be disconnected tonight" SMS asking you to call a number or click a link. Genuine boards don't threaten disconnection this way.
  • Fake cashback offers that ask you to "scan a QR code to receive money". You never need to scan a QR or enter your UPI PIN to receive money.
  • Callers pretending to be support staff asking for OTPs, card details or remote access apps.

Golden rules

  1. Never share your OTP, UPI PIN, CVV or password — not even with someone claiming to be from TRETTON EPICE.
  2. Always pay through the official website, and check the address bar before entering anything.
  3. Don't install screen-sharing apps at a caller's request.
  4. Verify bill details — TRETTON EPICE shows the customer name registered with the biller before you pay.

TRETTON EPICE will never call you to ask for your password, OTP or PIN.
